To say Reuben Keeney began his music career "early" would even be a bit of an understatement.
"I was 12-years-old when I played my first night club," he recalls. "I had a really early set time because I was too young to be in a club after midnight. It was such a crazy, life-changing experience. Afterwards, I was so eager to keep making music and playing shows. I'd say that night kick-started everything for me."

Growing up in the small town of Letterkenny, Ireland, the DJ and producer was destined for a musical future. As a child, his musician father would play Daft Punk albums in the car, instilling an appreciation and love for electronic music inside of his son very early on. Once Keeney began messing with his dad's turntables, he quickly went from spinning records to producing—in the midst of attending high school.
The title of his first original in 2009, "Coming Up", proved completely apropos. Keeney tracked down legendary house music producer Steve Mac by blindly emailing him. Mac then agreed to put "Coming Up" out on his sMACk label. Upon release, the song rapidly rose throughout the scene and became an underground anthem with Sasha and Digweed incorporating it into their set and David Guetta featuring it on his radio show.
However, Keeney broke into the mainstream with his 2012 release on Toolroom Records, "Give It Some Time" featuring Glen Rosborough. After "Give It Some Time" impacted, the song hit the Irish Top 40 charts, entered MTV's playlist, Morgan Page personally remixed it, and it received worldwide attention.
"It was my first pop dance record," he goes on. "It showed a completely different side of me, and it inspired me to produce more club music."
It isn't strictly "club music" in the traditional sense though. Instead, Keeney drives house down his own lane with personal flourishes and a decidedly 21st century flare. As a result, it's irresistible and completely unpredictable.
"I try to make a distinct sound for every record," affirms Keeney. "It's not predictable. My tracks aren't template-based. I don't like to over complicate things. There are hooks, but nothing's ever the same. For me, it's about the energy. I want to transfer that to the audience."
He definitely captures that distinct energy on a bevy of 2013 releases. Whether it's "Get Hyped" on Laidback Luke's MixMash Records, "Good Times together" on Vicious Records, or "We Do It Big" [featuring Rafii] on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records, he's consistently unleashing club-ready bangers. The music genuinely comes to life on stage too. Already, he's shared bills with Pete Tong, Wolfgang Gartner, Felix da Housecat, and more.

Even though he picked up the art form at an extremely young age, Keeney's journey is truly starting now. "I just want to create something new," he concludes. "I'd love for people to want to listen to my songs again and share them with their friends. I hope they can relate to what I'm creating."
